Non-violent Conflict Resolution through Forgiveness
Breaking the Cycle - blog post

Oaklands School, London

14 July 2008

“Today I have forgiven Beatriz for killing my daughter Charlotte” Mary told the year 9 at Oaklands this morning. “When you have unforgiveness, bitterness and anger it eats you up – it can make you physically sick in your body. The perpetrator is living their life, but you’re the one whose got that anger, the bitterness, the resentment, so you’re the prisoner as well as the perpetrator. If you can forgive and let go of grudges, it makes you the bigger person.”

Thanks to all you students and staff at Oaklands for being such a good audience. If you forgot to pick up a book, ask you teacher, she has the ones that were left. Please take the time to add a comment here, we would love to hear from you.

i was at the oaklands assembly at the time and i was so inspired by Mary Foley. She inspired me and my fellow yr 9’s to be the bigger person and forgive each other. And the book WHY FORGIVE?, i read it in 1 day and will always keep it and show to others that need help. Now i am in yr 10 i understand more about youth crime and how it starts thanks to BREAKING THE CYCLE!
