Non-violent Conflict Resolution through Forgiveness

St Bonaventure School, London
17 January 2008
You gentlemen – all 1100, of you who packed St Anthony’s church – were a great audience for each of our speakers. Many of you told us afterwards that this will be an event you’ll never forget. We’re really glad you had a chance to hear Sergio’s message – and trust you’ll remember his words: “Being in a gang is never glamorous”, no matter what the media might want you to think.

For Don and Paul, police officers from New York, it was particularly gratifying to be able to address so many young men, and to be part of BTC’s effort to give you the tools to resist the lure of gangs and their culture of violence. Thanks to those of you who took time afterward to ask questions and to connect with Sergio and the rest of the team.

I was lucky enough to be at the assembly, and it was great to hear the speakers. It was the first time I heard Sergio speak, and it was moving to hear his story and also to see the tombstones of all the young people killed last year in London.

It was an honour being there on Thursday. All the speakers were so eloquent but more importantly they were ‘real’ and as such connected with the young people they were talking to. It was great to see and I was touched by the experience
