Non-violent Conflict Resolution through Forgiveness

Rokeby School, Newham
4 December 2009
Thanks to all you year 10 boys for being a great audience. Hopefully the message you heard form Glenn and Kim inspired and encouraged you to make the best of your life.

Remember, forgiveness is a powerful tool that will help you keep on the positive path. It is never the easiest option, but most definitely the best. Have a good Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

We discussed the assembly again in form time today and recalled how struck we all were by the theme of forgiveness. It was noted how very different the two stories were, but how they were both equally powerful in their message of forgiveness not as a sign of weakness but as a positive way forward. We had recently had the opportunity as a form to discuss at length what 'justice' means and what 'revenge' is or isn't good for. It was important for us to meet Glenn and Kim because they represented real examples of people who had said "No" to revenge and accepted a more challenging, yet more rewarding path - that of forgiveness. Thank you again for your time and sharing your stories. They have truly made an impact on us.

Thank you for your comments.
when we recieve positive feedback such as yours, we know that our efforts in trying to educate students about conflict resolution are working, this is what makes breaking the cycle so rewarding for us personally, and this in turn, spurs us on, as a team.so once again, thank you for the feedback.
kind regards

Thank you so much once again, for your time and energy in organising another visit to Rokeby school. I must say that I do believe that it your work really does make a difference to the lives of our boys. As I said at the start of the assembly, last year after your assembly, one of our boys made the decision not to go to the party where Stephen Lewis was later stabbed, as he had heard that there may be trouble and decided he would do the right thing off the back of having sat through the Breaking the Cycle assembly.
