Non-violent Conflict Resolution through Forgiveness

St Richard’s Catholic College, Bexhill
25 March 2008
Forgiveness is a power it takes courage and strength. That was the message that came through loud and clear to day. Thanks to all you year 11 for being such an attentive audience.

Tragedy may not have affected your life like it did John and Roy’s, but as the High Sheriff Caroline Mayhew noted, if you can’t forgive the small things, you will not be able to forgive the big ones. Everyone of us has at least small things that need forgiveness. – What do think about forgiveness? Does it apply to everyone, or are there some times that forgiveness is not an option? Send us your comments about it, we like hearing from you.

The assembly gave me an insight into how you can change your own life, and the lives of others just by forgiving. The assembly was also emotive and you could tell that the speakers were passionate about the issue.

I though it was brave of them to talk about their personal experiences. I found it encouraging and helpful. It is nice to know that there are some people in the world trying to make a difference.

I felt that the American guys talk was quite good but that he should have talked about his father and brother first and then about forgiveness.

I thought that the speeches were very effective because the gave there own experiences of what they had suffered. It made me think that people have forgived people for doing unthinkable things, we can forgive people when they do minor things wrong.

Good to hear real stories – very brave. Didn’t really like it when they talked about Gandhi – didn’t affect me at all. More personal experiences would have been interesting!

The message that was given was very strong I felt that I recieved the message clearly. The background display was very effective because it showed the most important people in time and what they said about forgiveness.

The assembly showed us real examples of forgiveness. It was persuasive and the facts about young people dead made you think. It did help me have views on the subject of forgiving others.

I do not believe what the assembly was telling us and that we should forgive anyone and everyone for everything, but it was good as it shows us how some people think and feel.
