It was great to have a new speaker; Garrett was over from the USA to help deliver the message today. I hope those who heard him were inspired by his story – which certainly inspired me.
Walking down a Brooklyn, New York, street with some older ‘friends’ (gangstas) one day, 15-year-old Hashim Garrett was shot six times by another boy with a semi-automatic rifle. Suffering a spinal cord injury, Hashim was paralysed from the waist down, yet he has never let his paralysis hold him back from a life of remarkable change and achievements. By forgiving, Hashim is able to reach the hearts of many – and I hope if you watched the assembly today you feel inspired to make a difference with your life.
