Non-violent Conflict Resolution through Forgiveness
breaking the cycle, the history

The Breaking the Cycle Story

Breaking the Cycle is an international programme that has sponsored hundreds of school and college assemblies. Begun in the United States after the 1999 Columbine High School shootings, Breaking the Cycle seeks to stem the tide of youth violence.

In January 2008, Breaking the Cycle came to England and has attracted speakers eager to promote the message of non-violent conflict resolution to British teens.

Breaking the Cycle speakers act as role models, telling their personal life stories to illustrate how they have overcome violence and tragedy through forgiveness.

Aims & Objectives
Through school assemblies, our goal is to educate and encourage students that revenge is never the answer and that although forgiveness takes a great deal of courage, it is the best way to resolve conflicts.

We aim to inspire the students to make positive choices in life, to present them with good role models that have “been there done that” and can point the students in the right direction.

Breaking the Cycle sends an encouraging message to our teenagers and adults that they are special, they are unique, and that someone cares about them. They can make a difference in the world today!

Everyone on our team finds inspiration from the old Hasidic saying:
"if you save one child, you save the world".
